Kick off the year with this simple and organized way of getting to know students. Whether it be 1:1 interviews or independent survey format, this outline will expedite the process of understanding who your students are, what they like, what their goals are and much more. The first page has 15 questions that include things like what their favorite candy is, their dream job, their least favorite class, their birthday and more. The second page offers more insight into who they are such as their self image of their intelligence. Have fun!

Check out this simple and student-friendly rubric which is meant to be used to evaluate student math journals. The rubric is broken into four categories, of which students can score between a 1 and a 4. Each score for each section includes explicit description of what you need to obtain that score. A guide on the bottom shows how to calculate up to a percentage grade. This is meant to be provided to the students, so they know what is expected of them with the journals, and then used to grade at the end of the quarter, or semester, or year. Sections included cover topics of Organization, accuracy, elements, and illustrations. Best wishes!

As we all know, independent reading at home has a huge impact on students' success in the classroom. Building stamina in our children while they read independently is extremely important. This simple bar graph template provides a great tracking system for the minutes of independnet reading per night. There are 15 columns for potential bars to track anywhere from one to thirty five minutes of reading. Students and parents are therefore able to track and take ownership over this growth and development. It also serves as a great resouces of documentation. The page is student friendly, includes a sample bar, and directions up top!

Check out this multipurpose organizer that has a fram at the top for students to place a visual and then lines down below for them to write. This can be a great way to activate students' prior knowledge about a topic in which they draw a memory or something they think of related to the topic, and then describe what they have drawn. By default, this gives students variety in the format they present their knowledge. It can alos be used for homework, an exit ticket, end of unit summary and so much more. It comes in four different formats for differentiation to different grade levels or ability levels!

Flip the discourse around by creating a positive environment around behavior. Praising the positive and focusing on the students doing the right thing is aligned to the PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Support). This is a great way to allow those students who often slip through the cracks for doing the right thing, receive the recognition they deserve. Formatted very similar to the tradition behavior report, there is a section for the location, character trait that was identified such as grit, honesty, humility, teamwork and much more. There is a section for the teacher comments, and then an administrators comments. This can then be sent home for parents to see the great things their child has done.

Very simply put, you can track who the student was that you called, the reason for calling, the date, and any notes that came out of it. Check out this awesome template that can easily be infused in your classroom to promote critical thinking, goal setting, and reflection. This can easily be adapted for any subject, grade, age, or ability. Students set their own goal for each day. At the end of the day they either reflect based on the three emojis or on the higher level templates by elaborating with an explanation. John Hatties has ample research out there that points to the importance of students knowing where they are coming from and where they are going.
